Suggestions for Letter Writers
  1. Type, or use a word processor to write your letter.
     
  2. Include your signature, title (i.e. student…), address, phone number and e-mail address in your letter.
     
  3. Direct your salutation to the Advising Network Committee, i.e. Dear Advising Network Committee.
     
  4. Comments on the following qualities as they apply to the relationship and work you have with the nominee.
    1. Strong interpersonal skills
    2. Availability to advisees, faculty and/or staff
    3. Frequency of contact with advisees
    4. Appropriate referral activity
    5. Use and dissemination of appropriate information sources
    6. Caring and helpful attitude toward advisees, faculty, and staff
    7. Willingness to meet with advisees in informal settings
    8. Participation in and support of more intrusive advising to build strong relationships with advisees
    9. Monitoring of student progress toward academic and career goals
    10. Mastery of institutional regulations, policies and procedures

     
  5. Any short, descriptive stories or examples you can share about events that reveal a nominee's character will be especially helpful.
